The iPhone 14 could get a feature that has long been standard equipment for many Android colleagues, for example from Samsung. This is the always-on display, which shows information such as the time, the battery level, the date or the current weather conditions and more, even when the display is actually switched off.
The rumor comes from Newsletter by Bloomberg’s Apple expert Mark Gurman. According to his sources, however, he only expects the always-on screen to come with the two top models of the next generation, i.e. the iPhone 14 Pro and the Pro Max.
This is how the iPhone 14 would benefit from the always-on display
In always-on mode, smartphones regulate the frame rate and brightness of the display as far as possible so that it consumes as little energy as possible. The aim is to have the most important information displayed at a glance while at the same time saving the battery.
In the case of smartphones with an OLED display, it is therefore also the case that all pixels that are not required for displaying information are completely switched off. Because the more the display has to be illuminated, the more energy it consumes.
We can only speculate how exactly the feature will be implemented on the iPhone 14. However, it stands to reason that Apple will also work with a black background and a low refresh rate here in order to increase the mileage of the device.

More lock screen changes
But that’s not all. Apparently Apple is also working on an update for the normal lock screen. According to Gurman, this one should Wallpapers with widget-like features
to get. So it could be that the iPhone with the new operating system gets interactive widgets and that you can operate them conveniently from the lock screen.
This change should also affect older iPhones, as it is supposed to be a feature of Apple’s new smartphone operating system iOS 16. We don’t yet know exactly when the next version will appear and what innovations it will contain in detail. But at the latest at this year’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference we will learn more about it.
The event will take place online this year from June 6th to 10th, 2022 and will primarily present the software innovations for Apple products. You can find out what changes to iOS 16 are still expected in the following article:
