In a few months it will be time again: the new iPhones from the 14 series will appear and, as always, fans of the brand will be standing on their feet in front of Apple shops around the world to be among the first to buy one of the coveted premium smartphones can call their own.
If you also belong to this group or are generally thinking about getting an iPhone 14, then you should probably think again. Because if you believe current rumors, the iPhone that Apple fans have been longing for for ages could appear in two years.

Why I will never be able to buy a new iPhone again
Under-Display-Camera anstatt Notch
According to the well-known leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 16 should finally do without the notch. The 2024 iPhone could therefore be the first to offer a screen that does not have a cut-out for the front camera and Face ID.

The selfie camera and face recognition should then move under the screen. This is called Under Display Camera (UDC) and Under Display Face ID (UDFD). If you’re wondering why this isn’t the case now, there’s a good reason.
The front camera as well as the sensor for face recognition need the best possible incidence of light in order to either produce decent pictures or to be able to capture your face precisely. If the lenses are behind the screen, the incidence of light is significantly reduced. There are three approaches to counteract this (this applies to both the selfie cam and Face ID):
- Better Camera: The quality, i.e. the light sensitivity of the camera, is increased to such an extent that it compensates for the disadvantages.
- Better software: The software is improved to such an extent that the algorithm can calculate the lack of brightness.
- Clear display: The displays become so transparent that enough light can enter.
And that’s exactly where Apple apparently wants to start, as Ming-Chi Kuo reports again. The iPhone 16 is said to bring so many improvements that the almost iconic notch can disappear.
By the way, there are already smartphones that hide the camera behind the display. Among others the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G, the Xiami Mi Mix 4 and the TZE Axon 30 5G UDC. You can find more smartphones, albeit with a regular camera, in our buying guide for cell phones up to 250 dollars.
What do you all mean? Will the notch finally disappear with the iPhone 16 of the year 2024 and will the camera and Face ID find a place behind the screen? Tell us in the comments!
