The Iron Claw: Start
“The Iron Claw” opened in German cinemas on December 21, 2023.
The Iron Claw: Trailer
The action-packed trailer for “The Iron Claw” shows how the Von Erich brothers strive together towards their goal of becoming successful in wrestling. But strokes of fate increasingly tear the family structure apart.
The Iron Claw: Handlung
Jack Barton Adkisson aka Fritz Von Erich has a dream: to get into the ring with his sons Kerry, Kevin, Mike and David. That’s why he starts preparing his children for a wrestling career at an early age. Over the years, the Von-Erichs become a successful wrestling dynasty, but the family is rocked by strokes of fate.
Why doesn’t Chris Von Erich appear in “The Iron Claw”?
Chris Von Erich was the youngest of the six wrestling brothers. At the age of 21 he committed suicide. Director and screenwriter Sean Durkin decided to remove Chris from the plot of his film “The Iron Claw” in order not to go beyond the scope of the plot.
Compared to the US-Magazin EW Durkin said that he took parts of Chris’ character and story and attributed them to the character Mike (Chris’s 5-year-older brother in real life). According to Durkin, this makes you root for Mike even more. In real life, Mike and Chris were together in the shadow of their older brothers, but in the film, Mike has to eke out an existence alone. According to the director, that makes it all the more emotional.
The Iron Claw: Besetzung
The Von Erich brothers’ lead roles in “The Iron Claw” include Zac Efron (“High School Musical”) as Kevin, Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) as Kerry, Harris Dickinson (“A Murder at the End of the World”) as David and Stanley Simons (“Superior”) as Mike. Father Fritz Von Erich is played by Holt McCallany (“61st Street”).
Also part of the cast are Lily James (“Pam & Tommy”) as Pam Adkisson, Maura Tierney (“The Affair”) as Doris, Michael Harney (“Hello Tomorrow!”) as Bill Mercer, Aaron Dean Eisenberg (“The Deuce”) ) as Ric Flair, Maxwell Jacob Friedman as Lance Von Erich and Kevin Anton (“Dead Ringers”) as Harley Race.
The Iron Claw: Produktion
“The Iron Claw” is a drama film from “The Nest” director Sean Durkin. Durkin wrote the screenplay and directed and produced the film. “The Iron Claw” is based on the true story of Jack Barton Adkisson and his sons Kerry, Kevin, Chris, Mike and David. The film title is derived from Jack’s Japanese wrestling name Tetsu no Tsume (Iron Claw).
More dramatic than any wrestling match
“The Iron Claw” tells a story that seems so dramatic that it cannot be real. And yet a lot of things in the film drama happened exactly the same in real life. The film gives wrestling a face and shows the dark side of the supposedly dazzling world of martial arts. But not without keeping a dream.
