John Wick is one of the most famous film franchises in Hollywood in 2024. It is actually supposed to end with Chapter 4, but it continues with numerous spin-offs intended for cinemas, but not only. A series about the main antagonist of the saga is currently in development, but without Keanu Reeves, who will reprise his role.
John Wick, an expanding universe
The first film, released in 2014, was born out of a sad observation. If a stuntman wants to see his work in the spotlight in Hollywood, he must direct his own feature films. Chad Stahelski and David Leitch thus created one of the most popular and lucrative sagas of recent years. And who better to play the “pop messiah” as a cold, methodical and touching killer than the actor Keanu Reeves? After the commercial and critical success of the film, a sequel project was quickly mentioned, then an entire saga.
Ten years later, the John Wick universe includes no less than four films, and the spin-off series “The Continental: Based on the John Wick Universe” will air on Amazon Prime Video in 2023. And Hollywood studios have no plans to stop there. Another spin-off, this time cinematic, with Ana de Armas in the lead role will enrich the lore until June 2025 with events between John Wick Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. The news is not very encouraging for Ballerina.
The test screening of the film ended in a fiasco and a return to the set. Ballerina is even called a “franchise killer” by some viewers. To save the saga, Lionsgate turned to Chad Stahelski – the director of the quadrilogy – with the main task of overseeing the production and shooting new action scenes. This disappointment did not prevent high-ranking Hollywood authorities from agreeing to another spin-off.

According to our colleagues from Deadline, A John Wick series centered around the Great Table (or High Table) is currently in development and is intended to follow on from the events of the fourth film. We also learn that Chad Stahelski himself will direct the first episode, while several characters from the John Wick saga will make their comeback. However, fans will have to mourn the loss of Baba Yaga. In fact, Keanu Reeves will not play the main role in this series, but will still take on the role of producer to ensure a certain level of quality.
