upcoming cast Sonic the Hedgehog A spin-off series on Knuckles has been revealed, bringing back some familiar faces and a fan-favorite hat.
As Variety reports, the live-action Knuckles series is now fully back with a cast other than Idris Elba for the titular character. Joining Elba is Adam Pally, who also reprises his role as Green Hill’s inept deputy Wade Whipple from the first two Sonic films. The Knuckles show has more story info, as it apparently takes place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (slated for December 20, 2024). Knuckles has apparently agreed to “train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the echidna warrior”.
In addition to Pally, the cast includes Edi Patterson (Knives Out), Julian Barrat (The Mighty Boosh), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso) and Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), who performed the theme song to Sonic the Hedgehog 2. They Both will recur in the series, with cameos from Game of Thrones’ Rory McCann and Tika Sumpter (who played Tracy in the second Sonic movie). More cast announcements are planned at a later date – presumably Sonic and Tails will appear somewhere, but their respective actors (Ben Schwartz and Colleen O’Shaughnessey) are not mentioned in the cast.
Production is also now underway, with Sonic 2 writer John Whittington serving as lead writer and executive producer, and film director Jeff Fowler to helm the pilot and serve as executive producer.
Perhaps most importantly, the tweet announcing the production has started from Sonic the Hedgehog’s official Twitter account, revealing a hat that might look familiar to more engaged Sonic fans — specifically, Knuckles first wore the cowboy hat in the 1999 animated film Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. I just don’t care if the show is good or not, I’ll always welcome Cowboy Knuckles with open arms.
A release date for The Knuckles show has yet to be set, but it has been confirmed to air on Paramount+.
