A week after its release, the situation for the latest PS5 exclusive is getting significantly worse, to the point that the few players who purchased it are being penalized.
The early numbers for Concord were already grim, but they’re getting even worse for the hero shooter that aims to compete with Overwatch 2 and is coming to PC and PS5 on August 23. The few players who believed in Firewalk Studios’ title are despairing as the servers are visibly emptying.
Nothing Concord for the latest PS5 exclusive
Some said that Concord was stillborn since it was first presented with great fanfare during the last State of Play. Unfortunately, things seem to have been confirmed since its release on PC and PS5. Although we don’t know the latter’s exact player count, the PC version is now practically depopulated. With a peak of just 697 concurrently connected players, it has now fallen below the sadly symbolic threshold of 100 players (65 competing players at the time of writing).
As a result, the few players who paid 40 dollars to try Concord on PC and PS5 are finding it difficult to enjoy a game that they value, but which today is almost abandoned and has endless waiting times to find… no part. A very sad result for this service game in which Sony had obviously placed great hopes. Especially since, according to various rumors, its development took around eight years. An awfully long incubation period, for a result that must have greatly annoyed the people who worked on it.
PS5 console exclusivity has been criticized for uninspired and uninspiring characters, a significant lack of content, and, most importantly, a ticket that’s too expensive for what it offers. Concord could find some redemption by becoming free-to-play, like a certain Foamstars from Square Enix, which also fell into total oblivion shortly after its release last February. In any case, Sony’s attempts to launch its game service offerings on PC and PS5 often fall flat, with the exception of this year’s brilliant Helldivers 2.
