There were rumors about this just yesterday, and now HBO and Naughty Dog are getting down to business. From January you can follow Ellie and Joel’s journey on TV.
The first season of the HBO series The Last of Us was supposed to start in 2022, but it has been known for some time that nothing will come of it. This week, the first users noticed that January 15, 2023 was a specific date on HBO Max. There has been no final confirmation so far, but the Naughty Dog developers have now made the appointment official via Twitter.

In the meantime, the German date for The Last of Us has also been fixed. Like many other HBO productions, the series is broadcast on WOW (formerly Sky). According to yesterday’s rumours, the UK broadcast date is set for January 16, 2023, one day after the US premiere. And as the German Playstation Twitter account has officially confirmed, this date also applies to the German broadcast.
Unsurprisingly, the series will closely follow the Naughty Dog video game template. Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”, “Game of Thrones”) will take on the lead role as Joel and Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”, “Hilda”) will play his companion Ellie. The creator of the series is Craig Mazin, who previously directed HBO’s hit series Chernobyl. The first season of the is scheduled to consist of ten episodes.
