After the release of The Last of Us: Part II almost three years ago, we’re still waiting patiently for the promised multiplayer offshoot – and this waiting time will obviously last some time longer.
Unfortunately, last week’s PlayStation Showcase c ontinued to lack any trace of the promised multiplayer spin-off of The Last of Us – and now Naughty Dog has commented on the matter. The somewhat sad news: The release of the multiplayer spin-off will be a long time coming.
Everything was actually done at the showcase and a presentation of the Naughty Dog title was planned and expected, but in the end it turned out differently and there was no trace of the game. In a tweet, Naughty Dog now commented on this and admitted: Although the development work on the multiplayer offshoot is continuing under high pressure, it will still take some time.
“As development continued, we realized that giving the game more time was in the best interest,” the studio said. Viewed soberly, this is not a postponement, because there was no officially communicated date for the multiplayer offshoot, but in a figurative sense it was somehow. After all, it was actually expected that the release would not be too far away – apparently not at all.
At the same time as the tweet, the renowned business magazine Bloomberg published an article about the spin-off and reported that the responsible development team had been reduced after an evaluation. “Many of the developers were withdrawn for other projects,” it says there. How long we have to wait for the multiplayer offshoot is unclear.
After all: In the tweet, Naughty Dog confirmed that a big new single-player project is actually in the works.
