HBO’s first season last survivor It’s over, but it sounds like season two won’t cover everything that the second game has to offer.
It’s been clear from the start that The Last of Us live-action adaptations will cover the entire story of the first game. The first season has come to an end, covering all the major plot points of the first game. We already knew that a second season was also on the way, as it was updated with just two episodes. Now, in an interview with GQ, showrunner Craig Mazin has explained that the second season won’t cover all of The Last of Us Part 2.
When asked if season two would span the entirety of the second game, Mazin visibly shook his head and said, “No. Not possible.” The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann also noted that “More than one season,” but when asked how many there would be, Mazin replied, “You’re right, we won’t say how many. But more than one is factually true.”
It makes sense that Part 2 wouldn’t be squeezed into one game. The first game was about 10-15 hours, while the second was about double that at 24-30 hours. That’s a lot to get through in just one season, especially since you’re not only getting Ellie’s point of view, but Abby’s as well.
Mazin also spoke about this shift in perspective, saying: “Some things will be different, some things will be the same. Some things will be added and enriched. Some things will be flipped. Our goal is still the same as the first season.” The goal, and that is to provide a show that makes fans happy.”
The PC specs for The Last of Us Part 1 were announced last week, and the remastered port will be released at the end of the month, on March 28.
