With an exact month to go before Naughty Dog’s latest work is available on the shelves, Sony has announced a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro pack of The Last of Us Part II, which will go on sale on June 19. This special pack includes the PlayStation 4 Pro console with a matte finish and an engraving whose design coincides with the tattoo that Ellie’s character has on her arm.
Along with the console, the pack also includes a DualShock 4 wireless controller – limited edition – in the same matte color as the PS4 Pro and with a floral detail similar to Ellie’s tattoo. Obviously, users who get this piece from collectors will also get a copy of the game and, contrary to what happens other times, this pack includes The Last of Us Part II in physical format. Similarly, there is also a code to redeem digital content for PlayStation 4 related to the title, such as a dynamic theme and avatars among other elements.
Obviously, there will be many players who at this stage of the generation do not want to buy the entire pack or have to sell the one they already have in order to purchase this version. For others, they simply won’t like the design of the console but the design of the controller. In any case, Sony has thought about these possible cases and DualShock 4 limited edition will be available independently from the rest of the pack. And yes, it is exactly the same that comes with the console, a controller with a matte finish Steel Black, details in white and «Ellie’s iconic fern tattoo engraved on the lower right and The Last of Us Part II logo on the touchpad».
Next to the console and remote Sony has also announced a version of its Gold wireless headphones with motifs of The Last of Us Part II. Thus, continuing with the line of the pack, the wireless headset Gold will feature a matte finish Steel Black with crimson interior pads. Also, a nice detail is that also includes Ellie tattoo on pad inside headband while, on the outside of the right side, it features the logo of the expected game of Naughty Dog.
John Sweeney, art director at Naughty Dog, wanted to comment on the background and inspirations behind the design:
“When we announced The Last of Us Part II we had no idea that Ellie’s tattoo was going to make such a deep impression on fans of the game. The next day we started seeing real versions on social media and since then fans have been sharing photos of his tattoos week after week. When we were presented with the opportunity to create a personalized PlayStation 4 Pro system from The Last of Us Part II, I spoke with Ángel García, our graphic designer at the time, and we came up with different ideas. However, we couldn’t stop thinking about Ellie’s tattoo. The truth is that it had already become a symbol of the game in the eyes of the community, just like the emblem of the fireflies in the first part. The dec ision was clear, but then the light bulb lit up: what if we recorded it on the console? It had not been done before, so we didn’t know if it could, but we found the way thanks to the fantastic work of the PlayStation teams. ”
As Sweeney points out, Of all the limited editions that PlayStation 4 has had – which have not been few – none have applied the design on the console’s own casing and therefore the edition of The Last of Us Part II it is the first and, in all probability, the only one.
Similarly, the Naughty Dog art team has wanted to pay tribute to the passion shown by fans of The Last of Us Part II And so Sweeney wanted to make it known: «The result is something very special. This design fills us with pride and is our tribute to the passion demonstrated by our incredible legion of fans. We really want you to see it in person and to enjoy the experience offered by The Last of Us Part II ».
Finally, to the pack and accessories you have to add a hard disk (HDD) that completes the limited edition set of the game. So, Sony and Seagate have collaborated to create the officially licensed 2TB Limited Edition Game Drive hard drive from The Last of Us Part II. Is about an HDD that will be compatible with PS4 whose software version is 4.50 or later and that will be available for 78’99 euros, the price of the rest of the products has not been revealed, so we will have to wait for the different stores to open the reserves.
