What would a Viking game be without an atmospheric midsummer festival? Just in time for June 24th, Valheim received a new update. Thanks to this, you can now dress your base in a festive way. Before you spend a lot of time sprucing up your settlement, you should first take care of the necessary defenses. Thanks to the new patch, monsters have become much more dangerous.
If you’ve never played Valheim and want to know whether the game is right for you, we recommend taking a quick look at our test video:

Valheim in the test – why is the survival game so successful?
Maypoles and monsters
With the new update, maypoles can now be made. These could previously only be found in abandoned villages. Maypoles are not only used to beautify your village, they also provide a nice buff.
If there is a maypole in your village, you will receive a bonus on comfort. If you rest near a maypole, the “rested” buff is strengthened. This in turn influences how much XP you earn and how quickly your life and stamina recharge. According to the developers, the maypoles are only available for a limited period of time.

What will happen in Valheim in 2021? Roadmap and all planned updates
Maypoles are not the only new feature of the update. A lot has also changed in the behavior of the monsters, which in turn makes them much more dangerous. The AI has now been revised so that the monsters are more aggressive and can attack your village. The latter will be tackled when you move too far from the enemy.
The behavior of bosses has also been revised. The toughest opponents can no longer be put to flight. According to the patch notes, Greydwarfs should now be able to throw better. In order not to lose your base too quickly to the monsters, you should therefore plan in advance how you can best defend the structures.
Here are the full patch notes:
- Random memory error bug fix (Fixes an issue that could corrupt your world if the game was shut down.)
- Adjustments to the monster AI (more aggressive monsters attack the buildings when the player is not in range.)
- Container fix (Fixes an issue where you had to click on a container multiple times to open it in multiplayer.)
- Greydwarfs can now throw better.
- Wolf event can only be triggered after Bonemass is killed.
- Long forgotten blob event available.
- Fixed SFX volume settings.
- Bosses no longer run away from the player.
