The latest update for The Sims 4 is the one many of us have been waiting for, albeit for too long.As of May 25, players EA and Maxis‘ Sims will be able to customize their Sims’ pronouns.
Players will be able to assign various pronouns to their Sims, or create their own custom pronouns without having to install any mods. This can all be done from the Create a Sim page, and pronouns can be selected by editing your Sim’s name and clicking on the right pronoun – as shown in the images above and below.

EA has also added some example sentences for using pronouns to help players determine which pronouns are right for their Sim. Additionally, players of The Sims 4 can also change their Sims’ pronouns at any time.
First released in January 2022, this update is now finally available through GLAAD and the It Gets Better Project. While we’ve been able to decide whether our Sims are masculine or feminine, we’ve been limited to his/his/her/her pronouns in the game. This is understandably frustrating for a lot of players, but for now, The Sims 4 will use custom pronouns wherever possible.
This is certainly a welcome improvement for The Sims 4, making the game’s content more inclusive and accessible to players. However, EA warned that the update may not be perfect, and they will continue to improve the use of pronouns in the game. Issues with pronoun updates may include grammatical errors in game text.
Additionally, the pronoun update is currently only available in English. EA also suggested that they will add more language options, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for those options to roll out.
Regardless, it’s great to see that EA has finally taken this step to make The Sims 4 even easier to pick up, which definitely prepares us for the upcoming kit! On May 26, Little Campers and Moonlight Chic will also release, allowing you to spend a Parisian evening in town or catch a movie in the backyard.
