The latest trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 makes a surprising Pokemon reference, and now I can't help but wonder what this crossover would look like

Today, Paramount and Sega brought us a new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and somewhat unexpectedly, it mentions Pokemon.

It's been a few months since the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released, but with the movie set to hit theaters in about a month, fans have clearly been eagerly awaiting another trailer. If that's you, then today is your lucky day! Earlier today, Paramount released the second official trailer for the upcoming trilogy, and it…well, it features a kid asking Tails if he's Detective Pikachu, which 1. They can do Up to this point, it 2. caught me off guard (in a good way!) and 3. really made me wonder what a crossover would be like.

Are we talking about Sonic characters fighting Pokemon? I personally don't think Sonic would run Chemin just because it's a hedgehog, probably more like Flash which is the 6th fastest Pokémon and fits Sonic's cool guy vibe. Or maybe it's a case of “this is what Knuckles looks like as a Pokemon”. Who knows! Regardless, it's a fun trailer that gives us a little more insight into the super-themed restaurant Sonic Team goes to, which I think is the most important thing about the whole thing. Shadow has a sad game with Maria, a dead girl from the future though, so those who like to cry over Sonic characters (and I include myself, that's not a slam dunk) will get something out of this too.

There's clearly a lot to look forward to in the movie beyond what's in the trailer, as the movie itself will feature more characters appearing in future installments of the franchise, as film director Jeff Fowler teased (and while He didn't confirm it, but my money is on the big cats).

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in theaters on December 20 next month.
