The latest trailer for Sony’s latest Spider-Man movie has been released, and it features neither Spider-Man nor Kraven the Hunter, plenty of gore, and a dash of Rhino.
Of all the characters and their respective villains Sony could have bought, Spider-Man was probably the best of the bunch, especially when it acquired the rights. Since then, we’ve seen all sorts of different interpretations of the character, but given that the current incarnation has been relegated to Disney’s Marvel Universe, Sony has been trying to figure out what to do with the other characters it owns. So far, its most successful in terms of live-action have been the Venom movies, which have been stupid and cheesy from start to finish, but hey, I’m still excited for Venom 3. But Venom is already a popular character, so this isn’t surprising. At some point, though, someone decided it would be a good idea to make a movie about another Spider-Man villain, Kraven, and its latest trailer was just released today.
As you can see above, Kraven looks to be a particularly violent movie – and I doubt we’ll see this old Spider-Man in this one, even in a cameo. The trailer features plenty of violent, dramatic shots of Aaron Taylor-Johnson brutally killing people in a cinematic version of Johnny Cash’s Here Comes the Man. Oh, and a guy gets his arm ripped off by a couple of wolves, so if you don’t like that, it’s probably best not to watch this movie. Perhaps worse, Kraven’s opponent in this movie appears to be another Spider-Man villain, the Rhino, who looks particularly CGI-generated this time around.

Aside from Venom: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony hasn’t had much success with its live-action Spider-Man movies. Spider-Man: Morbius was a disaster, and this year’s Mrs. Spider was even worse. Kraven the Hunter is coming out later this year on December 13, so if it fails, it would be Sony’s second Spider-Man movie to fail without Spider-Man this year. Venom 3 is coming out on October 25, a few months before Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so at least one of the three movies will be a success.
