A ring she… well, what is it actually for?
Developers continually incorporate a variety of secrets into their games, from simple Easter eggs to absurdly complex scavenger hunts.
In Diablo 2 we found an infamous cow level in which we had to deal with a whole herd of the actually harmless farm animals. And the current game in the series also has a large-scale cow secret that is continually being expanded by the developers.
With the current update for Diablo 4, a new, seemingly ordinary ring with an interesting description can now be found. And there is already speculation as to whether he too is part of the mystery.
The Seal of the Mage Clan
The ring is a common item with no special stats that is called Seal of the Mage Clan. The only thing that stands out is the detailed description:
Despite its age, the quality of the manufacturing is striking. The image of the seal has become so worn that it is no longer recognizable, causing the clan’s identity to have been lost over time.
So is the seal just an ordinary ring? Some players believe there is more to it. Ask on Reddit edgelordlover after the ring and is referred to the cow level. So we took a look around the Discord server, where new clues to the next step of the mystery are constantly being sought.

In fact, Vessel of Hatred is said to contain another part of the mysterythe cow hunters know to report. There are three new items to discover, a bell, a gem and a staff. The ring doesn’t seem to be part of it, but it has already been discussed. Although no direct connections to the cow level have been discovered, it cannot be ruled out that the ring could hide a secret.
A possible explanation of what the Mage Clan Seal might mean can be found in the game files. Here the item is named with a side quest from Vessel of Hatred The Scales of History
associated. But the ring plays no role in the quest. So maybe it’s just an item that was originally intended to be part of a mission?
Since the trail to the cow level fizzles out, that seems like the more likely explanation at the moment. But even with Diablo 4’s biggest Easter egg, the community is still far from reaching its goal.
Because, as with the first part of the puzzle, many complicated steps will probably have to be followed in order to find a solution in the end. Who knows whether the seal of the mage clan might still play a role.
