Top hit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild could potentially be on the way to the Switch 2 in an optimized form. At least that’s what a renowned insider says.
Nintendo fans who are already thinking about purchasing the new Switch 2 can apparently expect a comeback of the Wii U and Switch top hit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. At least that’s what the renowned SEGA leaker and insider Midori suggests, who is also well connected elsewhere in the gaming industry.
The first rumors about such a new edition of Breath of the Wild appeared online last September, when there were reports that Nintendo presented a prototype of the Switch 2 with this Zelda title behind closed doors at gamescom 2023. The pimped-up game version is said to have run with a 4K resolution and 60 fps.
The leaker now took up a new tweet via social media that revolved around the project codenamed “U-King-O,” which is said to be in the works at Nintendo. According to Midori, “U-King” aka “Unbound King” is the internal code name for Breath of the Wild; This had already become public via a leak from the Nintendo showroom at E3 2014. A file called “U-King.rpx” was also found in the title’s game files on the Wii U, which already confirmed this fact.
The now added suffix “-O” is likely a reference to the Switch 2 and could be related to the codename of the new console itself. O could even be the first letter of the new platform’s official name. After all, Nintendo has already done a similar thing with the Switch. The Wii U exclusive game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker originally had the code name “Kinopio”, the Swich port that followed in 2018 was internally called “Kinopio-S”. At the same time, there was a different codename for the 3DS version with “Kinopio-C” – based on the codename of this platform: CTR.
