The hopes of Zelda fans have been fulfilled: At today’s Direct conference, the final name of the next game was finally announced – and even a release date!
The long-announced sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is finally back on the scene. At today’s Direct conference, Nintendo got down to business in two ways: the final name is just as clear as the specific release date.
The sequel to Switch Zelda will be called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo had previously kept the name under wraps for a long time because it “could reveal too much”. That’s over now!
It has been known for a long time that the release will not take place in 2022. But now we also know how long we will have to wait in the new year: the title will officially be available for the console from May 12, 2023.
There was also a new trailer to go along with it, showing Link how to ascend to the Hyrule skies in a new way. It also features new powers and weapons.
The sequel to Breath of the Wild was first confirmed at E3 2019 via a trailer. The predecessor was released in 2017 for Switch and Wii U and has sold more than 25.8 million copies to date.
However, another rumor about today’s Direct has not been confirmed: neither an HD remake of Wind Waker nor Twilight Princess has actually been announced.
