In “The Lord of the Rings” the Elven king Gil-galad went to war against Sauron. You can find out how it came about here!
The new Amazon Prime series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tells the story of the rise of the dark lord Sauron. Side by side with the humans, the Elven king Gil-galad marched as one of the leaders in the battle of the Last Alliance against Sauron.
Gil-galad was a Noldor Elf and the last High King of the Noldor. He was the first bearer of the ring Vilya, the ring of air. This was one of three elven rings. First as prince of the elven kingdom Lindon in Middle-earth and later as high king of the elves he fought against Sauron.
After the destruction of Númenor, Gil-galad formed the Last Alliance with the human king Elendil. In the second age, the Confederation managed to defeat Sauron on the plane of Dagorlad. However, Gil-galad did not survive this battle. He burned up when he got too close to Sauron. Before his death, Gil-galad passed his ring of power to the half-elf Elrond.
The first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be released on September 2, 2022. Benjamin Walker will play Gil-galad. Gil-galad was also scheduled to appear in the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. However, the filmed scenes of his death didn’t make it into the theatrical version or the extended edition.
