Galadriel was born in Valinor during the time of salvation. She was the daughter of Finarfin and sister of the last Noldor prince of Middle-earth, Finrod. Galadriel ruled the realm of Eregion with the Elven king Gil-galad. During the Second Age, she was one of the few to notice that evil had returned to Middle-earth.
When Galadriel founded the elven kingdom of Lothlórien, the smith Celebrimbor took over the dominion of Eregion. Sauron took advantage of this opportunity, disguised as Maia Annatar and had three elven rings forged. Galadriel was the bearer of one of these rings, Nenya, the Ring of Water. However, not trusting Annatar, she did not use the power of her ring while Sauron was still in possession of the One Ring.
As ruler of Lothlórien, she was the keeper of the mirror. Through this, those looking in saw images from the past, present, or a possible future. Galadriel was also the founder of the White Council, which also included Elrond, Gandalf, and Saruman. This made her one of the most powerful elves of her time.
When Frodo’s companions passed through the forests of Lórien after Gandalf’s death, they found shelter with Galadriel and Celeborn. There, Frodo offered Galadriel the One Ring, but she resisted the temptation to take it. She gave the group useful things for the rest of the journey.
At the end of the Third Age, Galadriel traveled to Valinor and left Middle-earth with her husband Celebron, Bilbo, Frodo and Gandalf.
The first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be released on September 2, 2022. Galadriel is played here by Morfydd Clark. In the “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” films, the Fairy Princess is played by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett.
