The time has come, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has adapted the first major event from Tolkien’s books: the Battle of Eregion. Although many small plot details and the forging of the rings come from the books, the battle is the first event that every fan of the books knows.

The Battle of Eregion is a key event from the Second Age and therefore the penultimate episode of the second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is certainly one of the highlights of the series.

The Battle of Eregion determines the fate of many in Middle-earth

In the Second Age, Eregion is a powerful elven empire that also maintains good relations with the dwarves of Khazad-dum. This is not something that comes naturally to elves. With the Battle of Eregion, the Elven Empire falls and is completely destroyed. It will not be rebuilt.

The lord of Eregion, Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), does not survive the battle either. The loss of the blacksmith and his kingdom is difficult and also means a further drifting apart from the dwarves, with whom the elves’ relationship continues to crumble.

Eregion’s decline also means Sauron’s rise. The Dark Lord finally wins the 9 Rings of Men and can now use them to deceive, seduce and control the Kings of Men with the help of the One Ring.

With the Battle of Eregion, Sauron reveals himself and openly wages war against Gil-galad (Ben Walker) and Middle-earth, so that even Númenor returns once again to support the Elves and Men of Middle-earth.

Every Thursday there is a new episode of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 on Amazon Prime Video. The finale will be released next week, but work is already underway on “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 3!
