On November 11th is the long-awaited “40th Anniversary” update for Microsoft Flight Simulator has gone live, bringing a ton of new content and bug fixes with it. As the name suggests, the update celebrates the 40th anniversary of the popular flight simulator. Here’s a quick synopsis for you of what to expect in the roughly 40GB update:

  • A scale Airbus 310
  • Two helicopters and 14 helipads
  • Two gliders and 15 gliders port
  • Seven famous historic aircraft including the Hughes H-4 Hercules
  • Four new airports
  • 24 “Classic” missions from past versions

Virtual amateur pilots will have noticed that two completely new aircraft types are at the start – helicopters and gliders.

Anyone who likes to fly on the PC will benefit from a few additional features with the update. A new memory defragmentation system was integrated there for DirectX 12, which is intended to prevent memory leaks. If you can’t use DLSS, either because your graphics card is older or you don’t have an Nvidia RTX card, you can now use FSR 2.0. If you already own an RTX 4000 card, you can even look forward to DLSS 3.0. In addition, two other DLSS modes are available: DLSS Super Resolution Auto and DLAA.

If you want to know more about DLSS 3.0 and why it is only available for RTX 4000, you can read it here:
