An excellent sci-fi novel as a basis, a budget of 160 million, Netflix as a platform and the showrunners of Game of Thrones at the controls. 3 Body Problem should definitely have some appeal for some interested actors.
For Rosalind Chao (Mulan, Sweet Tooth), just one aspect was enough to get her on board with 3 Body Problem. She really wanted to work with showrunners David Benioff, DB Weiss and Alexander Woo.
The showrunners were able to impress a book connoisseur
The fact that the project was being created at Netflix and with a hefty budget was just the icing on the cake. Because those responsible for the sci-fi series were able to prove that they could actually implement the complex template as a TV adaptation.
We were able to interview the cast of 3 Body Problem and explained and Rosalind Chaowho plays Ye Wenjie in the Netflix series, enthusiastically talks as a lover of the novel:

But [3 Body Problem] is anything but that. […] When I first read the script, I thought there must be geniuses at work. Because after that I read the book again and I can’t understand how they managed to convert it and also make it palatable for a wide audience.
That really impressed me and probably means that I should actually be nicer to them.
What is 3 Body Problem about? To avoid possible spoilers, you will only get a very rough summary here: The plot begins in China in the 1960s in the midst of the Cultural Revolution. A group of scientists tries to make contact with extraterrestrial life forms.

Eiza Gonzalez Incidentally, in the interview, he lists very similar reasons and also jokingly reveals how those responsible for 3 Body Problem were able to convince their colleague Jovan Adepo of the TV series:
I actually got into it for a whole bunch of reasons. Of course, to work with Benioff, Weiss and Alex Woo. And also, being a part of the adaptation of a book that has caused a stir around the world. […] For me, this is truly a groundbreaking project that has allowed me to work with an incredible cast […].
The list is really endless, but I know that Jovan actually only signed because he thought he was working with Salma Hayek. But then he had to deal with me.
How good is 3 Body Problem actually?
As a TV series, 3 Body Problem definitely divides opinions: Some critics describe the new work by Weiss, Benioff and Woo as Masterpiece
