After the disreputable eighth season of Game of Thrones, some fans certainly have nothing against the fact that the once planned Star Wars film by the showrunner duo David Benioff and DB Weiss was canceled. The recently published details about the project are quite interesting.
Star Wars: The First Jedi
The two showrunners spoke in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter reveal roughly what they wanted to tell. The plan was to focus on the origin story of the first Jedi. Basically, how the Jedi Order came to be, why it came to be, the first lightsaber…
The name of the film was going to be The First Jedi. And we were really annoyed when [Rian Johnson] called his film The Last Jedi. He completely destroyed the obvious title for what we were working on.
Ultimately, Lucasfilm didn’t want a First Jedi story. It’s their company and their IP, but we weren’t the droids they were looking for.
says Benioff.
But Weiss and Benioff are by no means the only big names whose Star Wars projects were canceled: In addition to Patty Jenkins and Damon Lindelof, even the film by Marvel giant Kevin Feige had to be put aside.
The duo is also already working on their next major project: 3 Body Problem, their next sci-fi adventure, will soon be released – the producer here, by the way, is Rian Johnson, who gave them the title five years earlier with The Last Jedi destroyed

But the first Jedi in the cinema?
The two Game of Thrones makers currently have nothing to do with Star Wars, but their original idea sounds surprisingly similar to the story of Dawn of the Jedi, another Star Wars film in the works.
It will be directed by Logan director James Mangold and will take place 25,000 years before the three Star Wars trilogies. But when it will appear is still unclear. There are already three release dates, but exactly which Star Wars films they belong to remains to be seen. You can find more information in our list of all upcoming Star Wars films.
