the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian“on the mouse streaming service Disney+ appear. After the captivating finale of the previous edition with the appearance of Luke Skywalker, the Mandalorian’s time together with his little green protégé Grogu seems to be over.

, still better known as Baby Yoda, now his Jedi training with Master Luke. But can a 3rd season of “The Mandalorian” even work without the powerful popular figure?

We list 3 reasons below that it would be a good idea for Lucasfilm and Disney to forego Grogu in season 3 – and 3 reasons against it.

1. Reason: Grogu is by far the most popular figure

of course is Command Din Djarin in “The Mandalorian” is super cool and can handle any situation. Supporting actors such as Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) or Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) – just to speak of season 2 – easily conquered the hearts of “Star Wars” fans …

But let’s be honest: none of these characters comes close to the popularity of Baby Yoda / Grogu. Not only is Grogu the most popular “Star Wars“Character, since Disney took over the franchise, the 50-year-old child has also been omnipresent in pop culture and the vastness of the net, as countless, sometimes heartbreakingly sweet, memes prove.

1st reason against it: Grogus story calls for a series of its own

The story of how Luke Skywalker wants to rebuild the Jedi Temple in the New Republic, takes new protégés under his wing and also instructs Grogu in power clearly deserves its own series. “The Mandalorian” can’t and shouldn’t tell this story as a second (less important) storyline that alternates with Mando’s adventures.

In addition, Luke Skywalker’s appearance in the season finale was cool, but a digitally rejuvenated Luke is ultimately only good for a short appearance. With more screen time that would Digital De-Aging quickly reach their limits and appear strange – at least in the form in which Disney presented it in “The Mandalorian”.
