The most complex construction game of all time is finished! | Workers & Resources with stone walls
Close your eyes and imagine the following construction game: You can win residents in this construction game in the classic way, but you can also lose them if you don’t do things right. Regardless of this, these residents also have different phases of life as they get older and of course a life expectancy that depends on your decisions. They can move around the city on foot, by public transport or in their private cars and all of this naturally has drastically different effects.
Of course, there are different levels of the population and occupations, and in addition to their productivity and happiness, you must also pay attention to their health, their loyalty to your government, their penchant for crime, their access to electronics and food, the quality of their clothing, their access to culture and sports, their attitude to religion, and whether they may develop an addiction to alcohol – which is not necessarily a bad thing.
What we have drawn here is actually just the table of contents of a single small subpage of the wiki (we haven’t even started with buildings, resources, road networks, water supply and garbage) of Workers & Resources – the most complex city builder ever.
After five years of Early Access, it is now celebrating its full release and we are venturing deep into the intricate and wonderful catacombs of the city builder with an Eastern Bloc setting, which comes at just the right time to sweep up disappointed Cities Skylines fans.
GameStar Talk: All videos and podcasts at a glance
And for these intricate catacombs we need a guide. Stephan alias Steinwallen meets all three criteria of the state-certified requirements for good tour guides: He has a fantastic narrative voice, he is a trained historian and he lives in Workers & Resources himself, so to speak, so he knows the subject matter better than anyone else.
How does Workers & Resources manage to not only function but also be fun despite its massive size? Where does hazardous waste from hospitals go and how does waste separation work? What’s so brilliant about a building mode that doesn’t make you feel like you’re playing God? And why shouldn’t you be afraid to venture into this strategy board yourself?
You can see all this and more in the video above, or you can listen to it here in the podcast:
