With the end of the year approaching, Steam is back with a bang, as this week is full of exciting new games. The really big names of the last week are missing, but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be boring. In particular, fans of construction and strategy games will be offered a lot this week.
Highlight of the week: Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress: New trailer confirms upcoming Steam release
Genre: Construction Strategy | developer: Bay 12 Games | publication: December 4, 2022
Dwarf Fortress is the life’s work of brothers Tarn and Zach Adams, who have been working on the mega-project for over 16 years – and according to their own statements are not even halfway done with it.
Don’t let the name fool you: It’s also about dwarves and building a fortress, but the building game actually wants to realistically simulate a complete fantasy world and really everything that happens in it.
With each start of the game, a game world including a thousand-year history and hundreds of civilizations, characters, animals and monsters is generated – and you now have to build a base with a group of dwarfs to protect yourself from all kinds of lurking dangers.
Dwarf Fortress has a huge community of obsessed fans, in part because spiritual heirs like Rimworld possess only a fraction of the complexity of this absurdly detailed simulation.
An example: In battles, not only the skills of your dwarves are included in the calculation – in the event of a hit, body parts hit and the materials of armor and weapons are also taken into account, among other things.
The game is also known for its hilarious stories. For example, your dwarven warrior might give birth to a child in the middle of the battlefield, pick it up, and crack in the skulls with the newborn in her arms as the goblins attack.
Due to its high complexity, Dwarf Fortress has an extremely steep learning curve, but the Steam version is intended to make it much easier to get started with tutorials – so that hopefully even more players can experience this really fascinating project in the future.
