Years after its announcement and after many delays, the Polymega is finally officially available. The Playmaji machine is instantly compatible with games from five CD consoles. And compatibility with various cartridge consoles is also provided via modules that are available separately. And when a certain number of these modules are already on the market, Playmaji doesn’t want to stop. One of the upcoming modules has just been unveiled.
Playmaji has just announced that a new module will soon make the Polymega compatible with Nintendo 64 games. This is the page Nintendo life who received the information through an interview with Bryan Bernal, CEO of Playmaji. Like the other modules, the EM05 “Ultra“allows you to play your Nintendo 64 games on an HD screen. You can also transfer your tapes to the console’s internal memory.
Bryan Bernal explains that this Nintendo 64 module has been the most requested by gamers. In his opinion, the interest of such a module is justified by the lack of legal solutions for playing original N64 games. Of course, it is still possible to use a real Nintendo 64. However, connecting the console to a modern screen is not the easiest.
Make Nintendo 64 games easier to access
In terms of compatibility, Playmaji states a compatibility of at least 90% at startup. This percentage will increase over time with updates. However, don’t expect options to improve game rendering. The American comforter prefers to focus on the authenticity of the experience. The idea for Playmaji, whether on the N64 or other compatible 3D consoles, is to be as true to how the games looked on the screens at the time.
There are several solutions available to players for playing these Nintendo 64 games through Polymega. For example, you can use the original N64 controllers or the controller that came with the Polymega. But you can also use the RC05 Ultra Retro Controller supplied with this new module. The latter was produced in collaboration with Retro-Bit and is a wired version of the Tribute64 controller from Retro-Bit. Bryan Bernal said on the side that this new controller is also intended to make it easier to use Saturn games that take advantage of SEGA’s analog controller.
The Polymega, a constantly evolving machine
Unfortunately, Bryan Bernal does not reveal the exact release date of his Nintendo 64 mod for those interested. His arrival is currently planned for 2022. On the other hand, it indicates that other modules are planned in addition to this ultra module. However, these are not only used to increase the number of compatible consoles. According to the head of Playmaji, these modules can be used to “to enhance“The gaming experience.
What’s more he remembers that a virtual shop is still in preparation. And that its development is well advanced.
The manufacturer then plans to make the Polymega compatible with modern gaming services via the cloud. So, on paper, the Polymega could be compatible with a wide variety of games.
Polymega, the ultimate neo-retro console?
As a reminder, the Polymega alone is compatible with Mega CD, Saturn, PlayStation, PC Engine CD and Neo Geo CD games (all regions combined). Various additional modules allow you to run NES, Mega Drive / 32X, Super Nintendo and PC Engine games. Last year we were able to test a pre-production version of the console. Our file on Polymega, accompanied by a long presentation video, is available at this address.
