Every Christmas season has its fashionable product, its toy that all parents grab. Regardless of component shortages, console failures with high demand are also not a new phenomenon. For his new Christmas film, Warner was inspired by a time when the NES was selling like hot cakes (gingerbread).

Warner Bros. just revealed a new Christmas movie starring Nintendo’s NES. Justified 8-bit Christmas, the film is set in the late 80s and tells the adventures of the young Jake Doyle. And most importantly, his search for an NES for Christmas.

A nostalgic Christmas film – wait for the sequel – gic

Note that 8-bit Christmas isn’t just in the 80s, but the adult version of Jake, played by Neil Patrick “Barney Stinson” Harris, tells this story to this girl. And since it is about a father who talks about his trip to his child, he glosses over the facts “easily”.

Directed by Michael Dowse, 8-Bit Christmas comes from the book of the same name. Kevin Jakubowski, the author of the original novel, also wrote the script for this adaptation. If the context of the film evokes memories, especially among Americans, nostalgic Europeans should also pick up on some references.

The NES, a movie star for more than 30 years

Note that this isn’t the first time the NES or its games have been at the center of a movie’s plot. The Wizard Released in American cinemas in 1989, it served almost as an infomercial for Nintendo products.

Justified Videokid: The brilliant kid in France, the film gave audiences one of the very first glimpses of Super Mario Bros. 3. And like 8-bit Christmas, Power Glove was there.

In the US, 8-Bit Christmas will be released on November 24th on HBO Max. It is not yet known whether the film will be released in France. And if so, whether it is offered via a video-on-demand service or in the cinema.
