Following the surprise announcement of Dying Light The Beast during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2024, Techland announces that the new game will be free for some players.
The surprises during the Gamescom 2024 announcements were almost non-existent, but there were still a few nice little things to take away. The director of Deadpool 1 and Terminator: Dark Fate took the stage to unveil the Secret Level anthology series based on major video game franchises. Even though it was leaked several hours or even days earlier, a trailer provided an update on the release date of Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle … which will, of course, arrive on PS5. Techland, the Polish studio that’s making a hit with its Dying Light license, has also made The Beast official. After the trailer, here’s more information on this standalone.
Dying Light The Beast is offered to certain players
Despite Techland’s trademark registration of The Beast, the announcement of a new Dying Light game just two years after the sequel came as a surprise. When a new title lands on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series Dying Light 2 Stay Human which became a standalone game. Rather than being a two, three or four hour experience, the developers say the adventure will last around twenty hours. Essentially, it will be a huge expansion, like the very good The Following, which had everything of a full game.
This new game will be free, but not for everyone. Dying Light – The Beast is offered to owners of the Ultimate Edition of DL2 Stay Human, so as not to harm them, since this title replaces the DLC 2 announced for Dying Light 2. If you only have the classic version, you will have to purchase this new game separately. Price and release date are unknown, but it will be available on consoles and PC. If you ever prefer to collect Dying Light 2 Stay Human directly, be careful! The Ultimate Edition and the Ultimate Upgrade will no longer be available from September 30, 2024.
Additional details (playable character, story…)
The story of Dying Light The Beast takes place after Stay Human and over 20 years after the events of the first game. “Dying Light: The Beast is set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods, a former tourist destination. Trapped in a laboratory for 13 years, you escape and track down your captors in search of revenge before realizing that there is much more at stake. Now populated by only a few people and factions, the region is not lacking in horrors. They will ask for your help or try to kill you. Not to mention the mysterious creature that hunts in the forest…”.
Leaving the character of Aiden, Techland goes back to basics and gives you back control of Kyle Crane, the hero of Dying Light. “When we decided to make Kyle Crane the hero of Dying Light: The Beast, it gave us a huge boost of inspiration. Like many of you, we were eager to bring Kyle back to do justice to the hero of Harran.” the studio explained in an FAQ on the franchise’s official website.
The developers promise a new story and new features. In all probability, in addition to bladed weapons and firearms, it will also be possible to transform into a beast using a very specific skill tree. And all this without having to return a vehicle, like in The Following. An adventure that can be discovered alone or with four players in co-op mode.
