For some time now, it has been possible to replace the current voice assistant with Gemini as soon as it has been installed via the Play Store. In the future, the artificial intelligence will offer even more useful functions, such as the portal Android Authority found out.
Why this is important: Gemini offers some powerful functions such as creating and editing texts, translating, generating program code and much more. However, access to the smartphone settings and various apps is currently missing. For some requests, Gemini forwards them to Google Assistant, which potentially slows down the request. But that should change soon.

- The AI assistant will also be given the ability to make phone calls.
- Probably the most practical innovation: Gemini could make various smartphone settings in the future, for example deactivating the always-on display, changing the brightness or changing the focus mode.
In addition to these three improvements, further optimizations are on the wayAt this year’s developer conference, the search engine giant has already confirmed that Gemini will receive extensions for Calendar, Keep and Tasks.
It remains to be seen whether these functions will become part of Google Workspace or whether they are actually standalone extensions. It is also unclear whether Google will initially limit the innovations to the English language.
For example, the generation of images is currently not possible in Europe.
When will there be news from Google? Google’s hardware event begins on August 13th at 7 p.m. As previously announced by the manufacturer itself, the Pixel 9 series, consisting of Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, awaits us.
In addition, the tech giant could have a smaller Pixel 9 Pro model in the pipeline. The main focus of the smartphones will of course be – how could it be otherwise – on artificial intelligence. The first teaser video for the smartphones already indicates this.
