The Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali isn’t going well at all. The project would run into a lot of big problems and a month after shooting, the film is left without a director.
Blade’s return to cinemas is not for tomorrow and development has stalled. Losing the director doesn’t mean the feature film can meet its release date.
The next Blade movie won’t have a director anymore
The new Blade movie, which will be without Wesley Snipes but with Mahershala Ali (Green Book: On the Roads of the South, Alita: Battle Angel) in the leading role, continues the disappointments. Bassam Tariq will not direct the Marvel Studios feature, which was scheduled to start shooting within a month.
The director and the company parted on good terms. Bassam Tariq’s departure would be due to concerns over the production schedule, according to a comment from Marvel.
Due to ongoing changes in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer directing Blade but remains associated with the film as executive producer. We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done to get Blade to where it is.

It’s been an honor to work with the wonderful people at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. I can’t wait to see where the next director will take the film.

That “ongoing changes” would mainly be due to a script not progressing.
A poor and boring script, Mahershala Ali frustrates
According to the journalist Jeff Schneider, who has written for several reputable film publications, Beau DeMayo’s (Moon Knight) current script would only be around 90 pages. Worse, it’s only meant to be included “two uninspired action scenes”. It is also reported that Kevin Feige would be president of Marvel Studios “too scattered”. A very complicated development process that would frustrate Mahershala Ali.
Blade is initially scheduled to hit French cinemas on November 1, 2023…
