Gaming News The new Nintendo Music app is great, but it’s missing an important detail!
You may have missed the news, but Nintendo has just announced (and released) a somewhat special application: its own music streaming platform. The irony is that there is an essential element missing.
The surprise of the weekend
We’ve known it for a while: Nintendo likes to play in its own backyard and generally doesn’t do things like everyone else. For now, what better example than Nintendo Music, which was revealed yesterday and released immediately? We are talking about an application to download on iOS and Android with which you can listen to the OSTs of all Nintendo games: Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Pokémon Scarlet / Purple, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, NintendodogsMetroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby’s Dream Land, Metroid under the name and at the same time with the Chaines Wii… There’s something to suit all tastes and all eras, with the added promise of adding new music over time.
Because yes, instead of going through Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Co. to distribute its soundtracks, as is usual with publishers, Nintendo preferred to develop its own music streaming platform. The advantage (especially for him) This is because access is only reserved for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, with or without an Extension Pass.
Additionally, this also allows Nintendo to develop new features. For example, You can choose the duration of certain titlesfor example up to a one hour loop; There’s even a “spoiler” option that allows you to avoid encountering a particular game’s musicso as not to reveal any elements of the plot through the names of the titles or their illustrative images. Nintendo offers the rest a whole range of categories and playlists based on: by character, by mood, by license… There is a lot to do.
But where are the artists?
However, there is an essential element missing that relates specifically to the copyrights that Nintendo holds and which has always gone to war against anyone who does not respect them: There are absolutely no composers mentioned on Nintendo Music And you’ll agree, it’s a bit ironic when a music streaming service doesn’t know who we’re listening to. They are not even mentioned in the “legal information” of the music.
This also raises a question of respect: if Nintendo has made a name for itself over the decades, it is also thanks to the legendary composers who have been instrumental in building its reputation. As an example, we can cite the great Koji Kondo, who has been working at Nintendo since 1984 and to whom we owe the iconic music for Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and dozens of others. The same applies, for example, to David Wise, one of the most important artists who signed the OST of Donkey Kong Country; from Star Fox Adventures and so on. And then there are dozens more.
Maybe Nintendo will fix this in a future update?
