The Game of Thrones universe still has a lot of story to tell. Proof of that is the next big series that happens to find a release window. See instead.
The Game of Thrones series is about to enter a new chapter with a prequel titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.” This new HBO drama series, announced for release in 2025, is currently in production, as confirmed by HBO chief Casey Bloys during the Warner Bros. presentation. Discovery. Great news for fans of the GoT universe.
A new series for Game of Thrones
Set a century before the events of the original series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. These two unlikely heroes roam Westeros at a time when the Targaryen line still reigns on the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragons is still alive.
The story is set in a time marked by great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous exploits that await these friends. Ser Duncan, a naive but brave young knight, will be played by former Connacht rugby player Peter Claffey and has appeared in Bad Sisters, Wreck, Small Things Like These and Season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla. Dexter Sol Ansell, known for his role as young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will play Egg.
It remains to be seen whether the story of these two characters will be strong enough to engage the masses, because for once we will clearly be moving away from politics and global issues and focusing on something that seems much more intimate.
Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin will be one of the series’ writers and executive producers alongside Ira Parker. House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal will also join the executive producing team, along with Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris and Sarah Bradshaw. In addition to this new prequel, the Game of Thrones team is gearing up for the release of the second season of House of the Dragon.
