Creator of Danganronpa Next game, Baixian-Last Defense Academy-it looks like Fire Emblem and the classic visual novel series.
Danganronpa’s time may have passed, but that doesn’t mean its creators aren’t continuing to create. Skywalker: Last Defense Academy is the latest game from the creators of the classic series, and yes, it’s about a group of students experiencing slightly nightmarish events at school while a funny-looking mascot oversees it all. If I had a nickel, etc. We even got a glimpse of gameplay in a trailer that promised the game would be coming to Nintendo Switch in early 2025.
While not much gameplay was shown, it looks like a mix of Danganronpa’s visual novel-style gameplay, Fire Emblem’s turn-based, Battlegrounds combat mixed in. It sounds like some of your allies will die, too, which is a big feature of both Danganronpa and Fire Emblem, so you might want to be careful when choosing your favorite allies.
A press release describes the game: “Takumi Sumino is an ordinary teenager living in a residential area in Tokyo, where every day is the same as the day before and nothing bad ever happens. Everything changes when bizarre monsters attack the town and begin wreaking havoc. A strange creature calling itself Sirei appears and offers Takumi the power to protect those he holds dear…all he has to do is stab himself through the chest!”
The press release also states that there are “100 desperate endings” in the game, but it’s unclear how those will differ, and that you’ll also have some free time to explore and bond with your teammates, which sounds a lot like Persona. Unsurprisingly, there was no mention of that during the Direct, but the game will also be coming to PC – but there was no mention of a PlayStation or Xbox release.
