The next Meta Quest headset has just been leaked and we can especially admire its very atypical design, even if the whole thing looks quite familiar.
Meta’s upcoming VR headset, the Quest 3S, made an unexpected appearance before its official announcement. This model was discovered through a leak in the Quest Link application on PC. The image of the Quest 3S posted on Reddit shows a headset that appears to be a cross between the Quest 2 and Quest 3, but with some notable changes.
On the front of the Quest 3S we observe six sensors arranged in two symmetrical groups, where the Task 3 There were only three pill-shaped ones. Despite this difference, the strap seems to remain identical to that of previous models. This revised design suggests that Meta could be aiming to reduce costs with this model while maintaining solid performance.
All signs point to an official announcement of the Quest 3S during the Meta Connect event on September 25, 2024. This annual meeting is often an opportunity for the company to showcase its new innovations in virtual and augmented reality. While the leaks are interesting, they don’t yet reveal all the details about what the Quest 3S will actually offer, but the upcoming event should lift the veil.
A cheaper headset without a controller?
Rumors suggest that Meta could offer the Quest 3S at an attractive price, estimated at around $300. To reach that price, Meta may sell the headset without a controller and rely more on gesture control. This technology, which Meta is gradually developing, would allow users to interact with the headset without additional peripherals, an approach similar to that of Apple’s Vision Pro.
In addition to this leak, accessories for the Quest 3S have already appeared on sites like AliExpress. Although the official announcement has not yet been made, these accessories confirm the appearance of the helmet, which is increasingly similar to what leaks have suggested for several months.
