With such a mega success as Game of Thrones, it is no wonder that more series from the world of author George RR Martin are to be created. The prequel House of the Dragon is already starting its second season this year, but that is by no means the only project. Now there is news about The Hedge Knight.
How Production List reveals, the prequel about the hedge knight Ser Duncan and his squire Egg will begin recording soon. To be more precise, filming will start on June 3, 2024.
To do this, the team goes to Northern Ireland. That only makes sense, after all, some scenes from Westeros were already shot there for Game of Thrones.
With filming starting in a few months, it probably won’t be long before the cast is announced – it’s still unclear who will take on the roles of the hedge knight and his squire.
This year, Season 2 of House of the Dragon will be released for the first time. The following trailer gives you a foretaste of the Dance of the Dragons:

What is The Hedge Knight about?
The series takes place almost 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon, on the other hand, is set even further in the past, almost 200 years before the main series. By the time of The Hedge Knight, dragons are already extinct in Westeros.
Overall, the series will probably be much more down-to-earth than previous series. This isn’t about the heads of great houses, it’s more about the common citizens of Westeros. The main characters are the eponymous hedge knight Ser Duncan and his squire Egg, who want to earn their keep in a tournament in the first season.
A total of three seasons are to be released, each of which will be based on the three short stories by George RR Martin. Martin actually has ideas for more books about Duncan and Egg, but it remains doubtful whether they will be implemented. At least the last parts of the main series, which the author has been working on for years, are still missing.
By then you will probably see more GoT spin-offs: Projects about Aegon the Conqueror and Corlys Velaryon, known from House of the Dragon, are already being worked on, but there is also talk of a separate series about Jon Snow with Kit Harington.
Even if you’ve never heard of Ser Duncan, you probably know one of his descendants: Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones is related to the Hedge Knight, as Martin himself confirmed. There is also a fan theory that Duncan is also the grandfather of none other than Hodor. However, the author has not yet commented on this assumption.
