a new trailer monkeylatest movies from long legs Director Osgood Perkins may turn you away from those scary cymbal crash toys forever.
Back in August, the first trailer for Monkeys didn’t show much, other than the titular monkey playing the drums and a shot of lead character Theo James covered in blood. Just yesterday, Neon released another trailer, this time a red-band trailer, so it has more of that classic horror stuff: violence. Much of it is only hinted at, the calm before the storm, instilling a strong sense of anxiety around swimming pools, brazier cooks and drumbeats when death is involved. Like “Longelgs,” the atmosphere of the film again seems quite strong, although the ending of that film was a bit of a letdown, so I still have some reservations about it.
The official plot synopsis reads: “When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of horrific deaths begins to occur around them. The brothers decide to get rid of the monkey and move on with their lives. They grow increasingly distant, but when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite and find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone around them. If you think you’ve heard this quote somewhere before, that’s because it’s based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name.

In addition to James, the show also has a strong cast, including Elijah Wood (“Lord of the Rings”), Tatiana Maslany (“She-Hulk”), Laura Mennell ( “The Man in the High Castle”), Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Colin O’Brien (“Wonka”), Rohan Campbell (“Halloween 2018”) and Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth” ). Insidious and Saw co-creator James Wan is also producing the film, so there’s a nice mix of old and new horror talent to be found here.
The film is now only four months away from release and is expected to be released on February 21, 2025.
