It seems like the Dead Rising series has been dormant for a while now. The last mainline game in this zombie-killing playground series was 2017’s Dead Rising 4. However, longtime fans only consider the first two games to be worthy of the name – and it looks like Capcom might actually agree.
The Japanese publisher has just announced Dead Rising Deluxe Edition, a remake of the original Dead Rising that is currently in development at its Japan studio.

The new game is just what the name implies, a remake of the original game for modern platforms. It has a new coat of paint, and Frank has a scary new hairline. You can watch the reveal trailer below!
Dead Rising is one of Capcom’s most popular series, but until today’s announcement, many felt it had been left behind. Capcom is currently experiencing a renaissance thanks to a number of successful and critically acclaimed games. However, Dead Rising had been left out.
Things have clearly changed, though, which Dead Rising fans will no doubt be happy to see. More broadly, it also suggests Capcom isn’t giving up on the zombie series just yet, meaning the newly announced game could just be a way for the company to test the waters before investing in a full-fledged sequel.
It’s worth noting that given that Capcom no longer has a Western studio, the game will be handled by a core team in Japan, which is another thing long-time fans will appreciate.
