How well a game is received by the community and whether it causes technical problems can often be clearly seen from the ratings on Steam. This is now also possible in the case of Hogwarts Legacy, which is no longer only available for testers and owners of the Collector’s Edition and the Deluxe Edition, but for everyone. But how exactly is the Steam community’s verdict at the moment?
In short: very good. Of the more than 25,000 reviews given so far, a whopping 94 percent are positive. One topic in particular dominates the reviews: how well Hogwarts Legacy succeeds in attracting fans of the Harry Potter books and films.
Again and again you can read that thanks to the game you feel transported back to your own childhood and how much joy it is to be able to be Harry Potter yourself – even if the game tells its own story without him. You can find out more about the gaming quality of the title in our detailed test:
Hogwarts Legacy im Test
The perfect Harry Potter game – just not on PC
And what about the technology?
The sometimes major problems that we encountered in our test and that were also reflected in some reactions from the community apparently do not occur with the majority of Steam players. The day-one patch that was released together with the game on the evening of February 10th and which we have not yet been able to test may also contribute to this.
You can read about difficulties with the performance in some reviews, especially in the negative ratings. Ultimately, however, this is not so important for most players that their extremely positive impression of the game would be clouded.
We’ll revisit the game with the day-one patch early next week (week 7) and report back on our own experiences with it. Irrespective of this, one thing is certain according to the current status: Hogwarts Legacy hits a nerve that hasn’t been hit by a game in a long time.
If you still have performance problems, our detailed tuning guide may be able to help. The developers themselves also give a very unusual tip for improving performance, as you can read in the following article:
No joke: your RGB keyboard could be to blame for Hogwarts Legacy not running smoothly
We are very interested in what experiences you have had with Hogwarts Legacy so far, especially if you were already able to use the day-one patch that was released last night. So feel free to write in the comments what hardware and what settings you use to play the game and how well it works for you – and what you think of it in terms of gameplay. Thanks very much!
