We’ve had to wait forever to hear more from Skull & Bones. Now it finally looks like Ubisoft will release its pirate game in 2022. Well, that plan is falling through the cracks after all. The message just came in by message in a bottle that the publisher is postponing Skull & Bones by four months.
The new release date is therefore March 9, 2023.
In the end it looked really good for the release of the game. After being lost when it was first announced in 2017, the ship-battle action-adventure finally resurfaced this year with a ton of new gameplay. We were also able to report in detail on the playful details. We didn’t like everything about Skull & Bones, but read for yourself in our big preview:

Why is Skull & Bones being postponed?
What’s going on? Skull & Bones was actually considered one of the biggest releases from Ubisoft for 2022. But internally there is apparently the opinion that the beacon of hope needs more time. An official press release states:
Even after development is complete, we’ll use the extra time to tweak and balance the game experience. For this we use the player feedback from our technical test and the insider program, which took place in the last two weeks. This is the right decision for players and for the long-term success of the game, as March 9th represents a very fitting release window for this unique new brand.
Apparently, Ubisoft is also trying to find a suitable time for the release. It also sounds like the tests didn’t go the way Ubisoft would have liked. This coincides with our own opinion, because we were still bothered by the details of Skull & Bones.

Open beta before release
Even if you now have to wait longer for the release of Skull & Bones, there is at least a small glimmer of hope. In addition to the postponement, Ubisoft also announced an open beta. This test phase should of course take place before the release. However, there was no exact date.
If you are disappointed by this news and now sadly lower your saber or put your eye patch back in the closet, then you should definitely take a look at our list of the best pirate games:
