news hardware The podcast officially makes its debut on YouTube
Podcasts have naturally become a staple of YouTube over the years. It seems logical that the platform finally decides to formalize a section dedicated to audios as well as their video playback.
The podcast arrives on YouTube but not in France
That’s bad news at the moment. Although the American version of YouTube has undergone a change in its sections, this update is not yet available in France. The update comes gradually. Not all users, even in the United States, received the novelty.
Last March, some sources revealed that YouTube was working on its own podcast service. Today we know that this leak was founded. Currently, this new podcast section is under the Discover tab. It replaces #podcasts which are still available in France.
This novelty is quite natural for the American Google. YouTube is currently the most used platform for podcasts in the United States, ahead of Spotify and Apple Music. The number still rises to 78% of people who have used the video streaming platform’s service.
What does a YouTube podcast look like?
This update is available on the web versions of YouTube as well as the mobile app. At the moment there are relatively few changes to the user interface compared to the previous version, which was based on the general user interface. We therefore find the Podcasts section next to the tabs: Learning, Music, Live or even Gaming.
Once in the section, like the other tabs, there is a section with the most popular podcasts of the moment. We can imagine that the user interface will change to better integrate and streamline listening to podcasts. For example, we might use a service similar to YouTube Music. But if the platform wanted to integrate it into the service, it would have already been done. It is therefore easy to imagine that the two services will not be merged.
With Google Podcast, then, we could imagine a quite dedicated application but also available on classic YouTube. It seems that this will not be the case. With this apparent duplicate, one of the two services probably needs to be shut down. There is a good chance that the Google podcast in particular will soon be discontinued. This duplicate is oddly reminiscent of that between the Google Meet and Google Duo merger. It seems that history repeats itself and bears a strong resemblance.
According to YouTube, the presentation of the podcast service is not yet official. During the announcement, we were able to learn a bit more about what the American platform wants. Why not a player optimized for podcast listening and easy management?
