Are you proud because you already broke the max level in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2? Are you frustrated because you don’t see any post-match weapon unlocks anymore? In any case, both apply to us, but there is a reason to rejoice: at the latest (and probably at the earliest) from November 16, 2022 it will come to an end! Because then Season 1 starts; and that brings in tons of new prestige ranks that should give the post-match meter a good boost.
And you know what’s also cool? That we got the prestige system wrong.
This is how Prestige works in Modern Warfare 2
A lot of people – including us – thought Modern Warfare 2 was back to working with seasonal resets. In plain English, this means that you diligently collect prestige experience in each season, but have to start all over again after the two months have elapsed. But Infinity Ward gives a clear refusal: your prestige experience will be preserved throughout all seasons.
How the system actually works: As soon as you exceed the maximum level of 55 in Modern Warfare 2, you switch to Prestige 1. Then you can farm another 50 levels before switching to Prestige 2. In total, Season 1 offers five prestige ranks:
- Prestige 1: Available from max level 55.
- Prestige 2: Ab Rang 100.
- Prestige 3: Ab Rang 150.
- Prestige 4: Ab Rang 200.
- Prestige 5: From Rank 250 and until the end of Season 1, the new maximum level.
Each prestige rank unlocks its own set of challenges and the ability to earn specific emblems.
Especially cool: Nothing resets after Season 1 expires. In Season 2, the maximum level will be expanded to include new prestige ranks, but you can still catch up if you have only made it to prestige 3, for example. So over the long term, over the lifespan of Modern Warfare 2, we’re likely to have over 1,000 possible levels. There’s always that one sock in the match that does it after 12 hours, but everyone else should have something to earn here for months – as long as the whole prestige grind motivates you.
