Project CARS is dead
After three successful episodes that have allowed motorsport enthusiasts to take full advantage of their simracing gear, we learn that the Project CARS license is saying goodbye. As a matter of fact, The Slighty Mad sims that saw the light of day in 2015, then 2017 and 2020 will be the only ones in the saga that will see the light of day.
In 2021 Electronic Arts pulled off a feat by buying Codemasters for $1.2 billion, the company behind many hit racing games, starting with DiRT and its spin-off DiRT Rally, but also F1 and WRC and GRID. And if all the above licenses had the right to a future, unfortunately this will not be the case for Project CARS games, other creations previously released by Codemasters.
Indeed, today The American giant behind the Need For Speed saga announced in a press release that there will be no more Project CARS games in the future. Bad news that makes sense, according to EA: The goal here is “to prioritize their attention in areas where they feel they have the greatest opportunity to create experiences fans will love.”
What happens to developers?
If bad news in the genre often means closing studios and laying off employees, today Electronic Arts assures the opposite. As a matter of fact, In the same press release, the publisher states that all of the developers who worked on the Project CARS franchise have already found work. According to the giant, new positions have been assigned to the various developers. So we envision the 150 people who worked under the direction of Slightly Mad are now working on the next Need For Speed, namely Unbound, due December 2nd on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X| S is expected.
