Microsoft has always been very tight-lipped about Xbox One sales. We knew the PS4 was off to a good start, but the Redmond-based company just unveiled new dates.
The death of the PS4 is fast approaching, and if the console couldn’t stand up to Nintendo, it completely annihilated its main competitor. In official documents, Microsoft admits its defeat on the PS4 / Xbox One generation by revealing a previously kept secret detail.
Twice as many PS4 as Xbox One
Mimicking Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. PlayStation and Xbox intermediary brawl in documents made available to the Brazilian competition authorities. On the one hand, Sony believes that the potential threat of Call of Duty as an exclusive will hurt it. On the other hand, Microsoft accuses PlayStation of slowing Xbox Game Pass growth with jagged checkbooks. Everyone goes there with their arguments to defend their cause, but amidst all these accusations another detail has chimed in: the PS4 has completely dominated the Xbox One.
In total, more than 117 million PlayStation 4s have been sold, knowing full well that Sony will stop publishing sales figures. On the Xbox One side, it was the big blur as Microsoft quickly stopped disclosing numbers for its console. However, in the same documents, the Redmond-based company claims that the PS4 has sold twice as much as the Xbox One. Therefore, if we do the math, we can estimate that the One console sold around 50 million units, compared to 85 million for the Xbox 360. The Xbox series is already the fastest-selling console in the company’s history. The gap shouldn’t be that big anymore for this generation.
