The situation in Middle-earth comes to a dramatic head in the sixth installment of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. As the humans prepare for their battle against Adar and his Orc army, the Númenórean warriors set sail for the mainland.
Adar wants the Keyblade, which the innkeeper Waldreg kept hidden in his barn for years. When Theo finds the sword and uses it to fight an orc, the evil Elf knows exactly where to find the key to evil.
After the humans initially manage to lure the attackers into a trap, the tide turns when the orcs set a trap for the villagers themselves. This gives Adar access to the sword. When the humans barricade themselves in the tavern, the leader of the orcs gains access to it.
He threatens the elf Arondir to slaughter everyone if he doesn’t say where the sword is. When Bronwyn is threatened, her son Theo caves in. He saw Arondir hiding the sword and knows where it is. He lifts a floor plate and hands the weapon to Adar.
But with the arrival of the Númenóreans, the orcs get into trouble. Chaos ensues and Adar takes the chance to escape with the sword. At least Galadriel thinks so. The elf immediately sets off in pursuit. What she doesn’t know: Adar no longer has the sword at this point.
Just a moment before the Númenóreans rush to the aid of the villagers of the Southlands, Adar hands over the sword to Waldreg. Of that, we only see Adar stepping out of the tavern and saying that he has a task for Woodreg. We don’t see him handing over the gun. Nor that there is now an ax in the bundle of cloth that Adar is carrying.
During the fighting, Waldreg manages to leave the village unnoticed. The Númenóreans only attack Orcs, who consider them the enemy and the villagers are too scared and wounded to leave the tavern.
This allows Waldreg to escape and open the gate to the water locks. How it is after the massive volcanic eruption around the southern lands is so far uncertain. However, the flora is unlikely to have survived these flames and the heat. Green lands become a wasteland.
The next episode of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” awaits us next week on Amazon Prime Video. It’s the final episode before the grand finale of season one and will show who escaped the volcanic eruption.
