When will season 2 start on Amazon

There is no question that The Rings of Power is getting a second season. Amazon has already planned far into the future – you can read more about it below. So Season 2 is definitely coming, but it could be longer than you might have hoped.

Shooting already started: Season 2 of The Rings of Power began filming on October 3, 2022. Theoretically, there would be hope that the new episodes of the Lord of the Rings series would appear on Amazon towards the end of 2023. Or?!

Still bad news for the release: Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it at the moment. This is what showrunner Patrick McKay revealed in an interview with TheHollywoodReporterthat he does not expect to start before 2024. The reason for this is the immensely high production effort that the TV series devours.

Accordingly, fans will have to wait a while for the release of new episodes until Amazon announces an official date for the start of the second season. We will keep you up to date.

What is season 2 about?

More Middle-earth…: There are currently no specific details about the plot of Season 2 of the Lord of the Rings series. The two showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne revealed that in the course of new episodes, much more well-known and iconic places from Middle-earth should be visited.

… and a big battle: A massive battle is also planned for Season 2 of The Rings of Power, which will span two full episodes of the Amazon series. The only question is who exactly will be involved. Do you already have theories? Let us know in the comments!

So many seasons are already planned

The proud budget: Amazon already has big plans for the future of The Rings of Power and has spent a lot of money on it. The group has spent at least one billion US dollars for its in-house Lord of the Rings series – but it is likely to be much more. After all, Season 1 cost aloud TheWallStreetJournal already around 715 million US dollars, Amazon had to shell out 250 million for the license alone.

And what is all this for? The Rings of Power will have at least five seasons of eight to ten episodes each. So Amazon still has a lot planned and is even planning one or the other spin-off. There are no concrete details at the moment, so the patience of the fans is required.
