In “The Rings of Power” Season 2 we finally get to know the mysterious Tom Bombadil. He is probably the oldest being in Middle Earth and a legend among “The Lord of the Rings” fans. The funny guy with a penchant for singing appears in the main story and even helps Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin – but he never made it into Peter Jackson’s films.

He is seen for the first time in episode 4 of the Amazon series and is living in the desert of Rhun at the time. He is described as a hermit, but he doesn’t seem to be all that alone! Because when he invites the stranger into his house and lets him take a bath, he suddenly starts singing a duet with an unknown woman whose face we never see.

The stranger is also surprised to suddenly hear another person coming from the living room. When Tom asks, he pretends not to know. But since Tom calls the woman Goldberry, we know exactly who he is singing with!

Goldberry – the daughter of the river!

Goldberry is the wife of Tom Bombadil. She also appears in the book “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”. Her origins are uncertain; she is said to be the daughter of the Water Woman of the Willowwinds. But it is certain that she shares Tom’s passion for music and mischief.

It is unclear why Amazon decided not to show Goldberry. Perhaps Goldberry will appear in later episodes or seasons. Or her little serenade was just meant to make Tom Bombadil seem even stranger and be a little Easter egg for fans.
