“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” first introduced Theo, son of Bronwyn, as a slightly moody youth who is revealed to be seduced by the dark side. However, Arondir and Galadriel could now apparently prevent Theo from becoming an even bigger problem child.
But even if Theo is now blossoming into a youthful hero, one question remains unanswered: Who is Theo’s father? This issue did not play a major role when the southerners marched against Adar with Galadriel and the soldiers of Númenor, but the answer should soon await us.
If Theo’s father were an insignificant or already deceased character, we would certainly have known that by now, there would be no reason to keep it a secret. Now, however, everything points to a later unveiling and here Arondir should be one of the hottest candidates.
Theo’s hairstyle is actually crucial for this theory. The boy’s shaggy mane always covers his ears, which could thus be pointy all the time. Theo doesn’t have much time for elves, especially at the beginning of the series, which could be related to the fact that his father is an elf and abandoned him and his mother.
What Theo doesn’t know, of course, is that his real father is Arondir and has always had a crush on Theo and Bronwyn. Since the Southrons hate the Elves, Bronwyn and Arondir kept this truth to themselves, seemingly trusting Theo’s hair to cover his ears at all times.
As a half-elf, Theo could even live forever if he chooses to. That would be useful for the series, after all, we should expect some time jumps over the course of the 5 seasons, which would mean saying goodbye to mortal humans. Bronwyn’s story would soon be told.
However, since Theo is not a well-known character from Tolkien’s works, his importance in the story will not be too great. So he won’t play a major role in the Battle of the Last Alliance, but could still die heroically trying to stop Sauron.
If Theo’s father is human, there are hardly any suitable candidates. Bronwyn doesn’t seem to recognize Halbrand in Episode 6, Waldreg can certainly be ruled out, and another unknown Southerner would be too boring.
Of course, The Rings of Power could keep the paternity secret much longer, introducing new human characters in Season 2 and then revealing one of them as Theo’s father, but for now, Arondir seems the most sensible choice.
We will find out which open questions will be revealed in the season 1 finale on October 14, 2022 in the Amazon Prime Video news program. Fortunately, Season 2 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is already being shot, but we’ll probably have to wait until 2024.
