Well, the second patch for Hades 2 is out, and it’s pretty beefy. What changes are coming, you might ask? Well, a revamp of all of Melinoë’s night weapons, a bunch of tweaks to how the Hammer of Daedalus functions, and some other pretty interesting changes.
All in all, Supergiant has made a ton of changes to sprinting and resource gathering in this first patch, and hopefully – along with further tweaks coming soon – it will help shape the game into the kind of experience the community has come to expect.

“Among the improvements in this patch are a number of new UI icons as well as weapon-related balance changes designed to enhance core combat and related choices,” the studio wrote in the notes for Patch 2. “Your feedback and volunteered gameplay data help inspire our changes, so thank you for your participation! Stay tuned for more Boon updates in our next patch.”
The biggest changes right now are to Melinoë’s five primary weapons. They’re easiest to express in list form, so here they are:
- Witch’s Wand: Special skills can knock back enemies, but the speed is slightly slower; Omega special skills are faster
- Sister Blades: Special effects make normal enemy attack damage reduction last longer; attack VFX better match attack range
- Shadow Fire: Attacks are more powerful and faster; Omega Attacks are faster to channel and use less mana; Specials are faster but do less damage; Omega Specials can be channeled while moving
- Moonstone Axe: Redesigned special effects provide a persistent barrier; Omega attacks channel slightly faster; Omega special effects channel faster
- Silver Skull: Omega Attack has a faster channeling speed and a larger attack range
Many aspects of these five weapons have also been redesigned. In addition to this, the effects of the hammer of Daedalus in the game have also been completely revamped, and many existing weapons have been completely removed from the game and replaced with new weapons.
There have also been some tweaks to enemies (including some guardians), and I won’t name a particular boss for spoiler reasons, but it’s less likely to be “patently unfair.” Aside from the fact that “you’re now more likely to find another boon or other major reward in Erebus,” my favorite change is probably this one: “When Charon is present, all timers are now paused.” Yes, Chronos cowers before the mumbling merchant. You love to see it.
