The widely acclaimed series The Last of Us is already completely surpassing its main competitors and could go down in history very soon.
The Last of Us series won’t be back until 2025 at best, but it’s about time Season 1 got a professional review. Will the adaptation of Naughty Dog’s masterpiece get as much acclaim as its video game counterpart? The HBO show aligns with other programs, including in-house programs, that have enjoyed great success.
Is The Last Of Us Series Coming Soon?
Season 1 of The Last of Us was a smash hit. After episode 9 aired, the television adaptation became the highest-grossing HBO film adaptation after the spin-off of game of Thrones
The latest episode of TLOU HBO was seen by more than 8.2 million Americans when it first aired. On the same evening, the very popular meeting of the 2023 Oscars took place. The Last of Us series just won 25 nominations for the 2023 Emmy Awards. The ceremony recognizing the best programs on American television.
This very high number of nominations is unprecedented for a video game adaptation. The Last of Us series isn’t about trying the numbers as it will compete against each other successor, The White Lotus, The crown (netflix), Better call SaulAndor (Disney+), Yellow jackets or Wednesday.
Bella Ramsey (Ellie) and Pedro Pascal (Joel) are nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series, respectively. The duo has a chance of winning these prizes, of course, but it still gets very complicated. The competition is very tough and there are already real favorites like Succession. And the supporting roles? You will not be forgotten. Murray Bartlett (Frank), Lamar Johnson (Henry Burrell), Nick Offerman (Bill) and Keivonn Montreal Woodard (Sam) are among the 2023 Emmy Awards nominees for Season 1 of The Last of Us.
Any news about the second season?
Season 2 of The Last of Us is unlikely to land in 2025. An estimate that doesn’t even take into account the Hollywood writers’ strike and its repercussions. So, for now, there’s no reason to wait for any crazy information about him. However, Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann of the Dogs have already said what they wanted overall. And they stay true to their vision. The idea is not to bypass the main events of The Last of Us 2, on which the new episodes are based, while introducing something new.
One more season and then off we go? It could go on, but nothing is decided yet. Season two’s reception will certainly serve as a barometer. “Our goal is not to settle for just one more season. We should stay here for a while. We’ve vaguely heard that there are ideas for a third season of the show, but for now we’re taking things season by season. There’s currently no guarantee we’ll get one, but I know they both have a vision for Season 3. I don’t know yet if that will lead to us doing more seasons.” said Mazin.
If you haven’t seen The Last of Us Season 1 yet, it’s available for free on Amazon Prime Video until July 15th.
